In severe cases, temporary dialysis may be required to assist with waste removal until kidney function recovers. For chronic kidney disease, management involves controlling the progression of the disease and addressing contributing factors. This includes blood pressure management, blood sugar control, and lifestyle modifications such as dietary changes and avoiding nephrotoxic substances. As CKD progresses, patients may require dialysis or kidney transplantation to perform the essential functions of the kidneys. Dialysis, a procedure that artificially filters the blood, can be done through hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Kidney transplantation involves surgically replacing the diseased kidneys with a healthy donor kidney.
